Repeatedly railing against the new Syrian government as an ‘apostate’ entity and lambasting it for various policies such as not confronting Israel and engaging with U.S. President Donald Trump, the Islamic State clearly intended to target the government. Until today, all the attacks claimed by the group in Syria since the fall of the Assad regime reflected a continuation of the group’s insurgency against the Kurdish-led Syrian Democratic Forces in the north and east of the country. The group has now claimed its first operation against the new Syrian government in the ‘badiya’ region (steppes) of eastern al-Suwayda’ province in the south of the country (where the group had previously had an insurgent presence back in 2018).
This post will archive the group’s claimed attacks against the new Syrian government.
