Disputes in the Alawite Insurgency in Syria: A Message from Fawj Azra'il al-Jabal
In March, rumours emerged claiming that Abu Ali Sumer- the leader of Alawite insurgent group Fawj Azra’il al-Jabal- had been killed during Israeli airstrikes on Lebanon. However, I was able to interview Abu Ali recently again (I will publish that interview in due course) and ascertain that these rumours were false. Among the issues he mentioned to me is that there are indeed ‘internal disputes’ between Alawite insurgent factions despite their common opposition to the Syrian government.
In this context, Fawj Azra’il al-Jabal has issued a new statement directed at Meqdad Fatiha- the leader of the most prominent Alawite insurgent group (Coastal Shield)- urging for an end to the disputes and partnership. I feature it with translation below.
