My name is Aymenn Jawad Al-Tamimi and I am a Syria-based analyst, translator and historian. I have a PhD from Swansea University where I focused on the role of historical narratives in Islamic State propaganda. I have more than 10 years experience working as a journalist and researcher, primarily focusing on Syria, Iraq and jihadist groups like the Islamic State and al-Qa‘ida. I have also published academic works on medieval Iberian history with Routledge (The Conquest of al-Andalus) and Manchester University Press (Rodrigo Ximénez de Rada’s Minor Histories).
