In analysis of Islamic State propaganda, two under-explored aspects are (i) the group’s weekly al-Naba’ newsletter (which is in Arabic, as opposed to the obsolete Dabiq and Rumiyah magazines that are in English and a favourite of researchers for their accessibility) and (ii) the group’s use of history. Both of these topics are focuses of my own academic research, and the group’s most recent issue of the al-Naba’ newsletter features an interesting infographic on notable battles in Islamic history.
