I covered the jihadist group calling itself the Ansar Abu Bakr al-Siddiq Squadron from the outset of its formation and created an archive of its operations. The group, which focused on targeting the Turkish army in Idlib, was most likely inspired in its thinking by ‘Khayal al-Manhaj,’ an independent jihadist thinker who wrote a lengthy study declaring takfir on Hay’at Tahrir al-Sham and also advocated targeting the Turkish army in Idlib.
