As part of the process of integrating the Kurdish-led Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) and its Autonomous Administration (now officially declared ‘dissolved’) into the Syrian state, a key issue has been the question of Kurdish linguistic and cultural rights, including the right for Kurdish children to receive instruction in the Kurdish language. It is in this light that a new decree has been issued by the Education Ministry giving more specific instructions on the incorporation of Kurdish into the curricula. So what should one make of this decree?
