Syria-Related Announcements
I have a couple of Syria-related announcements for readers and subscribers to this publication:
1. For those outside Syria interested in purchasing my newly published Arabic translation and study of the Mozarabic Chronicle/Chronicle of 754, you can now do so via the Lebanese bookstore Neel wa Furat, which also offers international shipping. The book is on sale at discount for just $7.60 per copy. The Mozarabic Chronicle (named as such because the author was likely a Christian living under Muslim rule in Iberia) is a Latin language work that is significant as the earliest surviving source to document the Muslim conquest of Spain and the first Umayyad governors there, besides providing an accounts of the Umayyad caliphate based out of Syria and events like the Battle of Tours in 732 CE between Charles Martel and the Muslims, halting their advance into what is now France.
2. I would particularly like to recommend a new Substack entitled ‘Sunflowers of Syria’, written by an Aleppo-based writer. She writes stories based on experiences of the war in Syria and the current situation, as well as stories from the wider region. Consider subscribing to her newsletter, particularly if you are interested in Syria and the wider region.
