Among my vast collections of old and rare books, I also have some old Arabic-language newspapers, primarily from Egypt and Syria. As part of this subscription newsletter I intend to publish samples of the articles contained in them with translations. The following article that is the subject of this post is taken from the Egyptian newspaper al-Masry (19 January 1948). It gives an interesting sample snapshot of the regular violence that was occurring in the late Palestine Mandate period prior to the Israeli Declaration of Independence:
