New Report on Afrin
I have a new in-depth report focusing the region of Afrin in Aleppo province, which had a Kurdish majority that was displaced on a large scale as a result of an invasion by Syrian insurgent groups backed by the Turkish armed forces in 2018. The report, based on fieldwork in the Afrin region, focuses in particular on the return of displaced Kurds since the fall of the Assad regime, mechanisms for the restoration of confiscated real estate, and the presence of Turkish forces and the formally dissolved factions of the Turkish-backed Syrian National Army. The report also contains a note on the Yezidi minority of the Afrin region.
