New Journal Article: On Iran's Approach in Syria
I have a new article published by the Middle East Quarterly journal examining Iran’s approach to consolidating and building influence in Syria. Rejecting the more sensationalist claims (e.g. that there is some kind of Iranian-engineered ‘great replacement’ at work in Syria) and reductionism that characterises the Iranian approach as following one playbook in every regional country, I highlight how the case of Syria rather illustrates that there is no ‘one size fits all’ method but rather there is Iranian adaptation to the local realities. I assess the implications of this Iranian approach in Syria for Israel and the U.S.
