Liwa Ahrar al-Iraq: Claimed Attack on Turkish Base in Iraq

While many of the newer ‘resistance’ groups in Iraq such as Ashab al-Kahf focus on targeting the U.S. presence in Iraq as a perceived ‘occupation,’ the U.S. presence is not the sole foreign actor inside Iraq of concern to them. The Turkish military presence centred at the Zlikan base (about which officials in the central government have complained) is also to be expelled from Iraq. One of the newer groups actively claiming attacks from time to time on the Turkish military to realise that goal is Liwa Ahrar al-Iraq (“The Free Men of Iraq Brigade”), which has claimed an attack this afternoon (local Iraq time). The statement by the group is published below with my translation.
