Islamic State Editorial on Russia's Invasion of Ukraine
Considering how the Russian invasion of Ukraine now dominates headlines, it is hardly surprising that the Islamic State would seek to provide comment on the matter, making the war the subject of its editorial in this week’s issue of its al-Naba’ newsletter. In summary, the editorial argues:
. This war among Christians is a result of God’s causing mutual enmity and hatred among them, as the Christians neglected part of what they were commanded to do as per their covenant with God. This is a precept described in Qur’an 5:14.
. Besides this outcome of Christian-Christian warfare that stems from the mutual hatred imposed by God as described in the Qur’an, this war is also a natural result of American-Russian competition for influence and control in Eastern Europe. America pursued a policy of ‘support and containment’ while Russia saw America’s policies as a threat to its own ruling government in Moscow.
. Besides the particular Christian-Christian hatred, there is also the cosmic precept of mutual repulsion (i.e. mutual conflict) that not only arises between truth and falsehood, but also between falsehood and falsehood, with the latter entailing conflict over this material world.
