Islamic State Editorial on Killing of Abu al-Hasan al-Hashimi al-Qurashi and Appointment of Abu al-Hussein al-Husseini al-Qurashi
Following on from last week’s issue of the al-Naba’ newsletter that featured a transcript of Abu Omar al-Muhajir’s speech announcing the death of the previous Islamic State caliph Abu al-Hasan al-Hashimi al-Qurashi and the appointment of Abu al-Hussein al-Husseini al-Qurashi as new caliph, this week’s issue unsurprisingly contains an editorial focused on this matter. The main points of note are as follows:
(i) People have supposedly developed a misconception of the caliph as a king sitting on a throne attended to by servants. In fact, the caliphs wage battles and willingly accept death in God’s path, just as the Rashidun caliphs Omar, Othman and Ali all died bloody deaths through being killed.
